5 Modern Desk Lamps with Style & Function

As most of us are working and schooling from home, workspace setups have become essential. Whether you have a dedicated home office or a makeshift desk; a stylish, quality task light will amp up your space and increase efficiency.

Proper task lighting can help you zone in on your work by highlighting the task at hand. It is especially helpful when deciphering small print size or navigating material with poor contrast. If your office or desk space receives poor lighting, a task light will be essential in getting the light levels up to improve your efficiency. If you work at different times of the day, definitely consider the options that offer dimming capability.

These are my top 5 recommendations for quality desk lamps. They are fun and modern, but classic in the sense that they will outlast any ‘trend’. So you can safely invest in one of these and love it forever! And while I am highlighting desk lamps, they can be used in any situation needing task lighting, for example bedside reading lamps.

1.

Pablo Clamp

Definitely not what you think of when you hear ‘clamp-on lamp’. Simple but stylish profile and very functional with height adjustability as well as 360° rotation. Available in white oak with a red cord as shown or walnut with a black cord, it comes with an optional base for long term flexibility. The styling is minimal but warm! The light source is LED. This is a great option if you have limited desk space or if you need the flexibility of moving the light around the house.

2. Anglepoise Type 75 Task Lamp, Paul Smith Edition

A classic lamp, given new life with Paul Smith’s signature color offerings. The one pictured is my favorite but there are 3 more options to choose from! It is fully adjustable and boasts a height of 26” at its tallest. This makes it useful for when you have a large desk monitor and don’t want to obstruct the view of the screen with a lamp. It’s also great for architects, designers and artists who have to work with large scale drawings etc. It takes a regular bulb. It is visually stunning!

3. Artemide Tolomeo Table Lamp with Parchment Shade

Another classic, but a little more architectural in style than the Anglepoise, where the steel tension cables are left exposed. The articulated arm & body are fully adjustable. This version of the Tolomeo with a parchment shade is great for a softer, diffused light. A thing of beauty, it is available in a clamp-on style as well.

4. Pablo Designs PIXO Optical Desk Lamp

Sleek and compact with a ton of convenient features. It has touch settings to turn the lamp on/off, as well as 3 levels of light output. The light source is integral LED. The head rotates 360 degrees and the stem of the lamp swivels sideways. The base of the lamp has a USB charging port. And it is available in a 7 fun color offerings. A great option especially if you have limited space.

5. Concept Lady7 LED Desk Lamp

A clean silhouette for the modernists. The linear profile is useful in providing uniformity of light over your task. The lamp automatically shuts off after 5 hours. The LED light is tuneable from cool to warm. It has a USB charging port (which you can never have enough of). It offers continuous dimming capability, which is great if you work at different times of the day.
